Jurgen Klopp’s present will meet his past when Liverpool open their International Champions Cup endeavours against Borussia Dortmund in Charlotte.
Having reached the Champions League final in 2017-18 and secured another top-four finish in the Premier League, much is expected of the Reds in the upcoming campaign.
They will be eager to establish momentum in their pre-season efforts, with silverware up for grabs at the end of three fixtures in the United States.

World Cup duty was relatively kind to the Reds but Jordan Henderson, Dejan Lovren, Roberto Firmino, Simon Mignolet and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been given a break while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a long-term absentee.

Favre has included new arrivals Adbou Diallo, Marius Wolf, Ashraf Hakimi and Marwin Hitz in his ICC squad, with all four hoping to settle quickly.
Established stars such as Mario Gotze and Christian Pulisic are also present and Marco Reus has joined up with Dortmund following a disappointing World Cup campaign with Germany, but Andre Schurrle has been freed to discuss a move elsewhere.

Fabinho, Liverpool
Liverpool have already taken in four pre-season friendlies, with Klopp eager to get minutes into his squad early.
The goals have flowed in victories over Chester, Tranmere and Blackburn, while a goalless draw was played out with Bury.
After facing Dortmund in the International Champions Cup, the Reds’ time in America will also see them lock horns with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Manchester City.
Liverpool have finished as runners-up in the North America and Europe section of the ICC on two previous occasions, losing out to United and Paris Saint-Germain in 2014 and 2016, so will be hoping to go one better this time around.
Dortmund, meanwhile, are already up and running having opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City.
Gotze netted the only goal of the game from the penalty spot against the Premier League champions, with Favre seeing his reign off to the perfect start.
